Interview with maker: Anna

Interview with maker: Anna

Our customers and workshop participants are always eager to hear more about our crafters' jobs. In this series of articles you will read about our makers and designers. Today we want to introduce you to Anna - our junior maker.

How did you end up working at Shuflia and how long have you been here?
I became follower of Shuflia 1 year ago on the social media, I checked the website & I really liked what I saw. In winter 2020 I had an idea to ask the team whether they are looking for the new team members. I received a reply & was offered to have an internship. First days I was super scared, but then I managed to create my very first pink Penny (wallet), and I understood that I was able to grow further at Shuflia.

What did you do before you became a crafter at Shuflia? How did you discover leather craft?
Before that I was working in a studio: I was sewing vyshyvankas (traditional Ukrainian embroidery), repaired wedding dresses and others. Sometimes I would use leather to create leather parts and repaired leather clothes. After this I realised that working with leather made me happier and more fulfilled.

How long does it take to acquire the skills needed to make Shuflia's leather products?
It's impossible to gain skills in a month, not even in a year. For me - it's a never-ending process.

How long does it take to make a bag?
I only sew leather goods (I don't cut or design them yet). This process for me takes 1.5-2 hours per day. I also take part in other process of creation.

What do you like about being a crafter?
Most of all I love working with leather, the process of creation and seeing the tangible result.

Is it hard work?
I don't consider it hard, since I love my job a lot.

Which Shuflia's product is your personal favourite?
Most of all I adore our small, cute wallets.

What do you like the most about working at Shuflia?
Our team, team work and ability to grow and develop.

Which designers do you personally follow?
I follow news from Dior, Chanel & Ukrainian designer Andre Tan.

What do you like to do outside work?
I love to spend time with my daughter, bake marmor cookies, meditate and watch movies.

Do you eat meat?
Yes, I do.

What does the future hold for you?
Only the best :)
